Day 14. The door opens and the whole house exhales.

There's a specific smell that wildland firefighters carry home: pine and smoke and the worn leather of fire boots that have been everywhere and done everything. We made this candle because we wanted to be able to hold onto that for a minute. Because fourteen days is a long time, and sometimes you just want him to be home already.
